Someone needs to explain it to my 140hp inline 4 2013 Civic. Keep in mind this is over 200 miles of driving... I'm rated at 28 city. what am I doing wrong? Maybe I'll sue Honda like everyone else.

Huh, That is strange. What kind of driving was that 200 miles mainly?

After an hour of mildly aggressive driving, My A4 still seems to think I was getting 25.

it's that darn right foot. It's probably gone bad. You should get it replaced. Right foot problems are the leading cause of bad mileage.

While that is pretty low for a Civic, keep in mind winter blends of gasoline have ~30% less efficiency than summer blends.

You wouldn't. I can't help but wonder if our civil engineers are trolling us all or if they're really that bad.

Do you have an instant-mpg readout too? If so, keep it up, look when it's high and when it's low, and stop doing the things that make it go low.

In general, try to look further ahead and anticipate what's going to happen, so that you don't have to hit the brakes. Or just suck up the poor fuel economy and keep hooning everywhere.

Well my car get's like 5mpgs less than advertised, so probably.

Sometimes it's the left foot. In Florida, most drivers use both feet at once while driving automatics.

As it been consistently low for all 8k miles? Ask the dealer to lend you another one for the day. I do better than that with almost double the HP.

That sucks. My 2.3 Mazda3 does 21 city and it's known for terrible gas mileage as far as small cars go.

Have you done the math yourself to see if the MPGS readout is just wrong? Although, those are usually optimistic.

I would think they do since it *could* get fairly cold down there even though it usually doesn't.

That's simply not correct. 2-8% is a more accurate number: http://jalopnik.com/what-you-shoul… . The drop I've noticed in fuel economy in winter is definitely on the lower end of that scale and I'm tempted to attribute that more to my winter tires than a change in fuel formulation.

It's kind of relative. In Southern California, they bundle up in heavy ski jackets in 50* weather. Over here in MA, I'd still be cruising around with a t-shirt on and my windows down. I've heard of it getting into the 30's once or twice in Florida.

Ehh, I've driven my Civic year round, and I went from 260/tank to barely 200/tank now. I haven't changed a thing. If anything I've taken things out of it to lighten it up some.

My instant is around 23-25 which still isn't great. You would just think that a new Civic with a really small engine would actually get decent MPGs

Have your driving habits changed? Traffic flow? Maintenance on your car? Tires? Stuff you carry? Lots of things could be affecting it.

I mean I suppose it really depends on how you drive it. My Miata has ranged from 18-30 mpg tank average depending on how I drive it. I generally get like 26-28 average but can easily push it higher or lower depending on driver input. Those EPA ratings are definitely done under ideal conditions but surely can be beat in either direction if you try hard enough. You keep the revs below 3k, never use the AC, and use your brakes infrequently and you will easily see 34+ in that civic.

Kinja'd!!! JQJ213- Now With An Extra Cylinder! > Wrong Wheel Drive (41%)

Maybe thats my problem. It is Florida so going without AC is a terrible idea and I most always have it on full blast (I think something is wrong with my AC... I have it scheduled to be looked at in 3 months (they are so backed up with airbag recalls)). Its also an automatic so I cant really control how it shifts. Braking is hard to do this time of year because of idiot snowbirds and old people.

I just... guess I expect better out of a 2013 small sedan

Great site I learned a good amount http://ecomodder.com/

http://ecomodder.com/forum/EM-hyper…

I bought an ultragauge so that I would have a tach and instant mpg and monitor what speeds the transmission upshifts so that I can try to drive in the best speed zones for mpg on my car. It's not as bad as it sounds it more about being efficient like not accelerating when you know there is a stop sign or a red light and instead trying to time the light so you don't come to a complete stop because not moving is always 0 mpg and you always burn a lot more starting from a stop.

If you let your car warm up and defrost every morning, that will kick your MPG right in the jimmy.

But since your in Florida, I suggest you check for a plugged air filter, dirty map/maf sensor, and that no one has shoved a banana up your tail pipe.

Also check for a dragging brake or bad bearing, when you get home feel each wheel hub and see if any of them feel warmer than usual.

is your check engine light on? if any of your sensors aren't working your ecu may choose to richen up your mixture to compensate, which will make your mileage considerably worse.

Hah, yeah Florida definitely needs the AC 24/7/365. And using the AC is a small 4 cyl in not going to do good things for efficiency. But you don't have to control how it shifts, just use less pressure on the gas and its gonna shift earlier anyways. Plus you would blend right in with all the oldies down there lol.

Actually, this might be Florida's one advantage. It's either downhill or flat as fuck, so mpg's should be good. I've actually gotten high 13's once down here. WOOHOO

Er, that doesn't sound like an instant MPG display to me - that would vary between 0 and infinity, at the extremes.
